Step into the wilderness as we celebrate the book release of Water Lines: A Life on Marshes, Rivers, Seas and in the Rain with Riverhorse Nakadate, Austin-born and raised Patagonia Fly-Fishing Ambassador, adventurer, musician, journalist, and environmentalist.
Riverhorse will be joined in conversation with Jay Kleberg, author, filmmaker and Executive Director of the Gulf Trust. Together, they will share the backstories of rowdy adventure moments from Water Lines, joyous ruminations on Texas fly-fishing, and update our community on Texas coastal conservation.
The evening will also feature a screening of the short film Love and Water: Riding Shotgun with Riverhorse (produced by The Flyfish Journal and Patagonia), followed by conversation, Q&A and a book signing.
About Water Lines
Â
A luminous, deeply felt collection of essays from Riverhorse Nakadate, whose devotion to wild places and the healing power of water pulses through every page. Across 32 essays, Nakadate paddles, hikes, casts, surfs, and canoes through landscapes as varied as the alpine lakes of Colorado, the salt marshes of his native Texas, the trout streams of Minnesota, Lapland in the Arctic Circle, Africa, and the mangrove swamps of the Yucatán. Whether he’s chasing redfish in a hurricane, rescuing baby squirrels and migrating monarch butterflies, or honoring his mother’s legacy with a canoe ride and a slice of sweet-potato pie, Nakadate writes with poetic precision and a fierce, tender reverence for the natural world and his fellow human travelers. For readers of Edward Abbey, Barry Lopez, Mary Oliver, and Jim Harrison, this book is a soulful invitation to step off the grid and into the current.
